Benefit's Velvet Eyeshadows

Today was the first time I ever used Benefit's Velvet Eyeshadows. They are a very soft texture. While I enjoy the texture, and the colors when I swatched them, I'm not too fond of how they look on me. I was hoping the darker one would show up more pigmented to add more depth (mermaid). The lighter color shamrocker is nice, but I feel I have to layer the shadow up to get the desired color/effect. I also own Fancy Pansy which I haven't tried out yet. Their staying power is nice, but at least when it comes to Mermaid I wish I could get it darker in the crease. It could be my base I use. I prefer Too Faced Shadow Insurance since I work most of the time, and I want a light (weight wise) base. Not something heavy like a cream shadow or a paint pot. So as of now I'm not too crazy about them, and at $18 I'd rather go with MAC or Bare Escentuals.

Have you used them before? What's your take on them?

Buying make-up off of EBAY?? BEWARE!!

I know a lot of beauty addicts like myself like to search EBAY for some of those rare and hard to find colors when it comes to MAC, Dior, Bare Escentuals, and any other high end cosmetic compamy. Be VERY careful when doing this not only because unfortunately there are people out there who don't have authentic products, but also people, ever 'top rated sellers' sell items for more than that actual retail price. I'm not talking about the actual discontinued or limited edition products ( some of them you can find at your local freestanding or department store or a Cosmetic Company Outlet!). I'm talking about items that are actually carried in their perminant line. For example:

I recently went to my local Macy's where I was checking the MAC counter. She showed me a color she thought I might like so that I could keep and eye out for it. It happens to be Lucky Green which is a great color (bio green is also, bit that's a pro only color :( ). I was looking online on EBAY to maybe find one for cheap. It happens every once in a while ( good deals that is! ). The prices are outragous! Between $16 - $23!! I called my local freestanding MAC, and they had PLENTY!

So basically just be careful when buying cosmetics from a second, or third party online. Do you research before buying online. Check with stores before hand!!

MAC's Brule eyeshadow was used as my brow highlight. I used Urban Decay's 24/7 liner in Zero on my lower, and lower water/lash line. Covergirl's Last Blast was used on my upper lashes.

What are other good ways to use these colors??

Mascara.. What's you favorite brand?

I've tried A LOT of different brands of mascara through working at Sephora for six months ( they were cutting back hours so I had to drop it as my pt job), and just through out the years. A lot of them worked at the first application, but didn't after that. They would clump, dry out, or just plain not work. I know a lot of people love Dior Show, but for me the formula dries out too fast for the price you pay. I enjoyed both of Fresh's mascaras, but found they really weren't for me. I need volume and length. I've gone through Covergirl Length Blast, and their mascara that has a color tint to bring out you eye color. I liked the Length Blast, but I need more volume. Others I haven't been too cound of is the E.L.F regular one, Rimmel's curves one (in the purple container), Urbay Decay's Big Fatty mascara, Benefit's Bad Gal, and Bare Escentuals Flawless Definition, and Buxom lashes Yi like that one better). If I had the patience I'd just wear false lashes every day!! I've found my favorite brush is Revlon's Double Twist. The formula is terrible. It's very clumpy, and flakey once it dries. My favorite mascara has to be Covergirl's Lash Blast. It really gives me what I'm looking for in a mascara. My second favorite is the Maybelline Colossal. It's just as good as the Covergirl one, but I feel after several times of use it stops working as well as the first time.

What's your favorite mascara?

How to stay neutral but still bring out your eye color

I went to my local Macy's MAC counter yesterday, and asked the MA If there was a way of using neutral colors, but still bringing out my eyecolor? She said since my eyes are green (sometimes blue) that using brule as an all over lid color (since I already have that), and colors like folie, and brown script placed in my crease with a 224 brush softly (so it looks natural!). You can use whatever color works best for your eyecolor (warmer or cooler naturals or ever a dark green or blue just to help pull you natural eyecolor out). So I think I'll be buying brown script or folie sometime soon!

Reader Response #1: Where Do You Buy Your Pigment Samples From?

The only site I have found to have decent prices (their pigments have raised in price since MAC has changed their packaging) is thebodyneeds2.com

Where do you make-up lovers get your samples from? I'd love to check out new sites!!

My favorite non-MAC sample sites are heavenlynaturals.com and fyrinnea.com They both have some great pigmented shadows!!

Liquid Liner; why I normally don't wear it

Since I work 6 days a week I really have no need for a more dramatic look. That and I work with mainly guys who don't understand ''cosmetics''. I do really love liquid liner my favorite being Urban Decay's liquid liner. I own Perversion, Ecstasy, Acid Rain, Minx, Revolver, Radium, Shattered, and Smog. They are really great colors, and are awesome liners. So if you get a chance you should pick one at. They sell them at Sephora for $18, and I believe at Ulta too.

My Everyday Staples and the Beginning of my EOTD ( no pictures for now)

My main staples I use everyday are:

- TheBalm Hot Mama
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- Covergirl Lash Blast (Black)
- MAC Studio Concealer (NW25)
- MAC Brule Eyeshadow (as brown highlight)
- MAC Skinfinish Natural (Medium)

I know my EOTD (eye of the day) doesn't really include the rest of my face, but I figured I'd post what I use anyways :) I'll add pictures once I finally have everything set up computer and camera wise. I'll be running my EOTD for around a month. It may be longer depending if I can keep up something different everyday. You will notice I prefer to use pigments over shadows. I use pigments/mineral eyeshadows from companies such as Bare Escentuals, MAC, Fyrnnae, and Heavenly Naturals.

Thank You Laura!

I just wanted to say thank you to Laura from Vanity's Edge. She posted my previous post in her blog. I'm glad I have such a great best friend as her! And to think we met by swapping! I'll post her site link as soon as I figure out how to.. I'm using my phone.. :) Check her out she has some great posts!!

In Need of Foundation... Concealer? Why yes it is!

I currently have been trying to figure out a new foundation to use. I like ones that are more on the matte side since I feel those do last longer. So as usual I stopped by MAC on my trip to the mall.

The MAC MA suggested that since I wanted a foundation that lasted longer than my current foundation (which is a mixture of face and body, tinted moisterizer, and studio sculpt) that I could use a concealer. She said that since I have good skin I could use the Studio Finish concealer on problems spots, and then use their Prep and Prime powder to set the concealer. My main concern when going in was finding something that would last through work, and was matte. If you have a more labor intensive job this might not work as well. I was finding that even with a desk job my little mixture was melting off halfway through a normal work day. After the MA applied the concealer ( which she only used a very tiny bit with their small stippling brush) I could see a difference. It didn't look like I was wearing foudation/concealer, and it was matte. Perfect!!

January Favorites

I'm really starting to like the Urban Decay 24/7 Liners. I'll swatch the ones I have, and if I stop over at Sephora I'll swatch the rest.

- Lush Skin Nanny
- Lush Ultra Bland
- Lush Eau Roma Toner
- MAC Cream Cup Lipstick
- MAC Universal Mix
- MAC Rich Life Pigment
- Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Covet
- Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Binge
- Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Deviant
- Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Mildew
- Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Ransom

On a side note I'm not too impressed with the way MAC changed their pigment containers. The containers themselves are nice, but I'm not too crazy about the price staying the same.
